Our governance structure is important so there is clarity about roles and responsibilities for driving transformational change.

The pandemic accelerated the importance of closer collaboration between hospital Trusts, with the existing APC structures ensuring we coped with unprecedented numbers of COVID-19 positive patients. It has also supported our elective recovery efforts across the three Trusts.

We have developed significantly in recent months, and we now have an even stronger infrastructure and governance model in place:

  • This is spearheaded by a new Committee in Common which sets our overarching goals and vision.
  • Our APC Executive oversees delivery. Membership includes Professor Clive Kay, Chief Executive of our host organisation, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust; Professor Ian Abbs, Chief Executive of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust; Ben Travis, Chief Executive of Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust; and our APC’s Managing Director, Fiona Howgego.
  • Executive Advisory Groups, programmes and networks set annual objectives and priorities – with built-in flexibility to respond to changing internal and external priorities.
  • The APC Steering Group is at the heart of our decision-making, tasked with driving both strategy development and performance improvements – with support from a small delivery team that brings together provider, commissioner and programme management expertise.

Our APC also reports to the leadership group of the South East London Integrated Care System (ICS). This recognises the key role that our collaborative is playing in supporting the ICS and all its partners to make the greatest possible contribution to the health and wellbeing of people living in our six boroughs.
