Celebrating Unpaid Carers in Bromley

06 Jun 2025

Carers Week (9th – 15th June) is an annual opportunity to recognise the incredible people in our community who care for others, often without recognition or rest. A carer is a person of any age who provides unpaid care and support to a family member, friend or neighbour who is disabled, has an illness or long-term condition or who needs extra help as they grow older.

This year marks one year since the launch of the One Bromley Carers Charter, which brings together local health and care organisations to better identify and support unpaid carers. Since then, we’ve seen a 14% increase in carers registered with their GP and more Carer Champions across local services.

Whether you’re a parent, partner, neighbour or friend looking after someone, support is available – from peer groups to practical help.

Dr Angela Bhan, Place Executive Lead for Bromley, NHS South East London ICB, said:

“Unpaid Carers do an incredible amount within our community, often unsupported and not always recognised. We’ve committed to a common approach in the One Bromley Carers Charter and one year on have taken real steps to ensure Carers are recognised, supported, and valued across our health and care system.”

David Walker, CEO of BTSE (which delivers Bromley Well), said:

“Carers often put their own needs last. Our mission is to make sure they feel seen, heard, and supported—whether through practical help, emotional support, or simply a thank you. Bromley Well is proud to have taken the lead in developing the One Bromley Carers Charter. It is great that all One Bromley partners are becoming more Carer Aware.”
