Harold Moody Health Centre in Southwark has received a prestigious RIBA London Award 2026, recognising its high-quality design and contribution to the local community.
The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) praised the building as “civic yet warmly human”, noting it was “designed with patient experience at its core”. It also described the centre as “a long-term investment in people and place”.
Designed by Morris+Company for Southwark Council and Notting Hill Genesis, the centre forms part of the wider regeneration of the Aylesbury Estate. The purpose-built facility brings together two GP practices, community health services and an early years nursery, creating an integrated hub rooted in the local neighbourhood.
The building supports a more joined-up approach to care, aligning with ambitions in the NHS 10-Year Plan for England and across south east London to deliver services closer to home and better meet the needs of local communities.

RIBA’s citation praised the building for its “people-centred, community-first approach to healthcare design”, singling out features of its design and its central location within the community:
“A light-filled atrium, generous circulation, and the use of natural materials, promote dignity, calm, and accessibility, while flexible, future-proofed spaces support evolving community health needs. Positioned within a new public square, HMHC is both an important piece of local civic infrastructure, and a welcoming and inclusive social anchor.”
The development was led by Southwark Council, working in partnership with NHS South East London, NHS Property Services, local GP practices and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. The RIBA jury recognised the collaborative effort involved in bringing partners together to deliver the project, and noted that extensive stakeholder collaboration had ensured the building responds to diverse user requirements.
RIBA London Award winners will now be considered for a national award, with results due to be announced in July. See RIBA’s full citation
