We’re celebrating Men’s Health Week this week (16 June 2026) with the launch of a new leaflet with information about help and support available for men living and working in Greenwich.

The leaflet is being shared as part of the Men’s Health Day at Christ Faith Tabernacle Church, Ebenezer Building 186 Powis Street on Monday 22 June. The leaflet promotes mental and physical health support available to men in Greenwich. The church is offering drop-in health check sessions for men on the day between 10am and 4pm.

If you’d like a copy of the leaflet for your community, email us at: [email protected]

Men’s Health Week is focusing on support from pharmacies this year, and men in Greenwich are being encouraged to open up to their GP or pharmacist if they have health concerns.

There’s lots of other support available for men too including dedicated services for mental and physical wellbeing, peer support, counselling, and specialised clinics.

If you’re worried about your physical or mental health, visit your GP or pharmacists and discuss your concerns with them. They can signpost you to a wealth of services.

Health support for men when they visit the barber

The Greenwich Barbers Health Initiative is a community-led program, largely driven by Headlinerz Barbershop in Greenwich and its founder, Jesse, aimed at improving physical and mental health outcomes for men, particularly in underserved and ethnic minority communities.

This initiative turns routine haircuts into opportunities for preventative health check-ups and open conversations.

Support includes:

  • Free health checks: Headlinerz offers on-the-spot, free blood pressure checks, helping to identify “silent killers” like hypertension before customers leave.
  • Mental health support: It provides a safe,, judgment-free space for men to discuss mental wellbeing, including issues like stress, anxiety, and loneliness.
  • “Thursday Night Jollof”: Facilitated by Ndukauba CIC and Jesse, these peer-led sessions bring men together to discuss health topics, foster community, and provide peer support.
  • Expansion and collaboration: The project is expanding across Greenwich, collaborating with NHS England, Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, and Royal Borough of Greenwich to train more barbers in bringing this model to other locations, including Nick’s HQ Barber Shop.

The program aims to bridge the gap in healthcare access, reduce pressure on the NHS, and save lives through early detection and community care. Find out more.
