Lewisham residents aged 16 and over can now use getUBetter, a free app offering advice and exercises for common muscle and joint problems.

The app has been approved by local clinicians and is available alongside existing NHS care. It provides personalised information based on a person’s condition and stage of recovery.

Many common muscle and joint problems can be managed safely at home without a specialist appointment. getUBetter can help people understand their symptoms, follow appropriate exercises and know when to seek further help. Information in the app is available in 20 languages.

How getUBetter can help

The app provides:

  • support and information available at any time
  • easy-to-follow exercises that progress as you recover
  • advice to help you recover, stay active and continue with everyday activities
  • support while you are waiting for treatment
  • guidance on when to seek further help
  • information about local treatments and services.

Ian Smith, Consultant MSK Physiotherapist at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, said:

“getUBetter is a safe and effective way to help people manage their injury or condition at home, at work and on the move. It covers a range of problems, including those affecting the back, neck, shoulder, wrist, hip, knee, ankle and foot, as well as sprains and strains”.

Dr Nuala Hale, MSK Primary Care Clinical Lead in Lewisham, said:

“Muscle and joint conditions are among the most common reasons people contact their GP practice. The getUBetter app gives residents easy access to trusted, NHS-approved advice and support whenever they need it.

“It can help people understand and manage their symptoms, find suitable exercises and know when to seek further help. Supporting people to manage their condition can also help ensure that clinical services remain available for those who need them most.”
