As a pharmacist, I see and treat numerous patients every day. With over 300 community pharmacies across south east London – many open evenings and weekends – we are your NHS on the high street.
More than 90% of people live within a 20-minute walk of a pharmacy, making us one of the most accessible places to get health advice and treatment. You don’t need an appointment to speak to us, and many pharmacies offer private consultation rooms where you can talk in confidence about your health concerns.
From sore throats and earaches to skin conditions like impetigo or shingles, we can offer clinical advice and even prescribe medication for many common conditions quickly and effectively. We’re also happy to signpost you to other local services if needed.
We offer free services that can make a big difference to your long-term health. If you’re over 40 and haven’t had your blood pressure checked recently, pop in for a free check – it could help prevent serious conditions like heart attacks. Many pharmacies in south east London also offer free oral contraception without needing to see a GP first.
This autumn, some pharmacies are offering free flu and COVID-19 vaccinations to those most at risk. You can book online, through the NHS App or by calling 119. Alternatively visit a walk in clinic.
Many of our teams also speak multiple languages, to fit the needs of our communities.
So, this ‘Ask Your Pharmacist Week’, remember your local pharmacy is here to help you stay well. Don’t wait for minor health concerns to get worse – think pharmacy first.
