To mark National Carers’ Week, our annual carers’ event, ‘A Day for Carers’ was held on 11th June to recognise the contribution of Bexley’s unpaid carers.
The event was held at the Holiday Inn and over 150 carers attended. Some 22 partner organisations offered advice and support with informative talks on Direct Payments, mental health support and other issues held throughout the day. A team of trusted assessors from One Bexley were also on hand to help carers complete care assessments. Three full assessments were done at the event and around ten more appointments for assessments were made.
The event was a chance for us to provide wellbeing support to carers with massages, Reiki and Tai Chi organised for attendees, with Therapy Dogs also on hand to meet carers. Private space was arranged for carers to talk to counsellors on the day.
Bexley’s new Mayor, Councillor Sue Gower joined us on the day, spending time with partner organisations to understand the support they provide to unpaid carers living across the borough.
The event was organised by Bexley Carers Partnership and the Bexley Wellbeing Partnership, with the day shaped by input from carers.
