We are marking Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Week with a new series of short videos to help residents understand how we can all play a part in protecting antibiotics for the future.

Antimicrobial resistance occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi or parasites change over time and no longer respond to medicines, making infections harder to treat and increasing the risk of disease spread, severe illness and death. Overuse and misuse of antibiotics are major drivers of this growing global issue.

The Bromley campaign highlights how small, everyday choices can make a big difference. You can watch all the videos below:

What antimicrobial resistance is and why it matters

Why it’s important to follow your GP or pharmacist’s advice when taking antibiotics

The dangers of sharing antibiotics with others

Why you shouldn’t keep antibiotics for future use

How to safely dispose of expired or unused medicines

Why some antibiotic courses have changed from seven to five days

The risks of prescribing antibiotics when they’re not needed

How to become an Antibiotic Guardian and support national efforts to tackle resistance
