Bromley Integrated Neighbourhood Teams (INT) recently hosted engagement sessions with local residents living with multiple long-term conditions, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, hypertension, depression, chronic pain and respiratory illness.
During the sessions the attendees received an introduction to the concept of the Neighbourhood Health Service and Integrated Neighbourhood Teams (INTs). The team explained how INTs might work in Bromley for people with long-term health conditions and discuss with patients the first elements of the model, including initial communication, pre-assessment and holistic questionnaire.
The discussion allowed participants to share their lived experiences of managing these conditions, highlight what is working well and suggest where improvements could be made. The feedback gathered will play a key role in shaping how health and care services in Bromley are designed and delivered in the future.
Residents highlighted the importance of involving carers and adapting to patients’ needs and preferences. People valued the chance to be listened to and asked for follow-up and to be involved in the next steps of the project. The sessions will now inform the development of the model and how to best implement it in Bromley.
Dr Anna Robinson, GP Clinical Fellow in Long-term Conditions for Bromley said: ‘A huge thanks to everyone who gave their time and joined our sessions in person or online. They were very useful events, and the discussions and suggestions shared will help us as we develop the model in Bromley’.
Attendees at the session, fed back that ‘The discussions were run well so that everyone had the opportunity to express their views.’ and that they ‘look forward to being involved with this project as it evolves’. Another attendee shared ‘the consultation was genuine. Constructive suggestions were made by most participants.’
