Congratulations to the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT), whose maternity services were recently rated as ‘good’ after an inspection from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), with University Hospital Lewisham earning an outstanding rating in the well-led domain.

The Trust ranked exceptionally high in key areas such as performance in leadership and their commitment to listening to women and birthing individuals, and the CQC commended them for their successful improvement journey undertaken by their Maternity teams.

Ben Travis, LGT’s Chief Executive, said, “This is a huge testament to the hard work and dedication of our teams, who are committed to listening to and learning from our women and birthing people – a big congratulations and thank you to you all.”

LGT were also recognised for their work in addressing health inequalities and ethnic minority birthing experiences. The CQC praised the Trust’s understanding of issues related to deprivation, language barriers, and cultural awareness. Initiatives, such as partnering with Five X More and adopting a clinical decision tool to reduce perinatal deaths for minority groups, were specifically highlighted.
