One Bromley’s work to improve cervical screening uptake using a targeted population health management approach has been shortlisted for the ‘Clinical Improvement Award: Public Health and Prevention’ at the GP Awards 2025.
This award recognises individuals or teams who have demonstrated excellence in improving healthcare for their local area. It celebrates projects that raise awareness, encourage engagement and deliver long-term benefits for patient wellbeing.
To better understand why some people weren’t attending cervical screening appointments, the team carried out a health equity audit and a public survey, which helped identify key barriers – including pain, anxiety and appointment timings, affecting different communities across Bromley.
Using these insights, the team launched a borough-wide campaign to raise awareness and encourage uptake. This included posters, bus stop adverts, a large scale social media promotion, a patient leaflet, and editorials – all designed to address the specific concerns and needs of local residents.
Spokespeople, Sophie Hallam and Jess Seal from the One Bromley team have commented “We are immensely proud of the team for being shortlisted. It’s a real testament to the passion and commitment that drives everything we do. It also highlights the strength of our unique One Bromley approach, bringing different expert teams together to deliver real impact. We would like to personally thank David l’Anson, Chloe Todd, Kelly Scanlon, Teresa Rodriguez and Eileen Pearson without whom our vision for our cervical screening campaign would never have materialised.
It’s vital that we move away from a one-size-fits-all approach to increasing screening uptake and hopefully this project has demonstrated just that.”
This shortlisting is a recognition of the dedicated work of our teams across Bromley, who are committed to improving access to vital public health services and reducing inequalities in screening uptake.
The GP Awards ceremony will take place later this year, where winners from across the country will be announced.
