Vaccines are the most effective way to prevent many infectious diseases.
It’s important to get your winter flu and COVID-19 vaccinations if you’re eligible. Getting vaccinated every year will top up your protection and reduce your risk of getting severe symptoms. It’s possible for you to be eligible for a flu vaccine but not eligible for COVID-19 vaccination, even if you’ve had it previously.
This winter, the COVID-19 vaccination is being offered only to people at the highest risk of serious illness, such as older people and those who have a weakened immune system because of a health condition or treatment. This is different to previous years.
Most children who are eligible for a flu vaccine can have the nasal spray. A flu vaccine injection is available that does not contain gelatine. If you do not want your child to have the nasal spray vaccine, speak to the person vaccinating your child or ask for the flu vaccine injection on the school consent form.
