Local resident Ralf has taken the first steps to quit smoking after attending a Community Lung Health Day organised by South East London Integrated Care System (SEL ICS) and King’s Health Partners (KHP): “I’ve now spoken to the stop smoking team and hope to get over that with their help,” he said.
The event connected residents living with lung health conditions to social prescribers, local support organisations, and health experts from Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. Together they worked to find personalised approaches to help them better manage their respiratory conditions.
Attendees began their journey in a ‘Conversation Café’ where they spoke with social prescribing link workers to discuss what they hoped to gain from the day. They were then introduced to local services offering support for other factors that might affect their health, such as housing and mental health.
There was also an opportunity for patients to get their blood pressure and inhaler technique checked, and speak with pulmonary rehab physiotherapists, dieticians and stop smoking experts.
