Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust

  • Carrying out a full Trust vehicle fleet review to assess viability of full fleet electrification
  • Development of a Trust electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure strategy
  • Implementation of a river boat pilot scheme for deliveries of supplies along the Thames from the Trusts supplies hub in Dartford
  • Supporting staff to use bicycles, both in the community for patient visits and through Dr Bike sessions for staff
  • Piloting food alternatives
  • Adding biodiversity benefit and colour to sites with use of green screens and ivy pollution barriers
  • Encouraging reduction of clinical and non-clinical single-use items and expansion of a circular economy approach

Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust

  • Introduced LED lighting and is seeking to reduce carbon consumption.

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust

  • Engaged with staff to focus on waste reduction and energy efficiency
  • Introduced new recycling bins across our two hospital sites
  • Switched to e-payslips (in January 2022) thereby also making considerable savings in paper, printing and postage costs
  • Anaesthetics and theatres teams have plans to reduce the use of harmful greenhouse gases in their work, and to re-structure their recycling plan
  • Switching to renewable energy tariffs
  • Begun the planning phase of a wellbeing garden at University Hospital Lewisham. The garden, as well as helping staff, patients and visitors combat stress, fatigue, anxiety and depression, will also help to improve air quality for our local community.

South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust

  • £547K grant funding to deliver the install of a heat pump and three solar panel arrays on the Bethlem system
  • Plant based food options
  • Active travel facilities across the main sites e.g. cycle shelters and showers
  • Fleet implementation program –  Trust fleet consists of 3 electric vehicles and there is another 5 on order
  • Capital program in place to deliver an additional 10x EV charging points on the Bethlem site
  • Received 200 trees from NHS Forest to plant on the Bethlem site
  • Encourages biodiversity e.g wild meadows, beehives and therapy gardens

King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

  • Established a Sustainability Steering Group
  • Expanded the Green Champions network to over 250 staff
  • Sustainable (no-meat) food options
  • Switching to low-carbon inhalers
  • Waste management – recycling and reuse schemes
  • Active and low-carbon travel initiatives e.g. cycle storage
  • £3.2 million grant funding to deliver a £1m LED lighting project and a low carbon heating system to the Golden Jubilee PFI, saving around 400 tonnes of carbon emissions annually
