This service offers physiotherapy services for those that suffer from a range of muscle, bone, back, neck, joint or general muscle problems. This service is not for those with complex problems or where other investigations such as MRIs or x-rays are needed.

Having completed an online form, you will get a call explaining whether they can help you and any treatment you will get. This could include a further assessment and follow-up physiotherapy appointments.

Audiology (including hearing aid provision)

What does the service offer?

The service aims at improving the quality of life for those with hearing loss and tinnitus. The audiologists use the latest modern technology to test your hearing and provide a digital hearing aid with support and advice on their use and care.

Who provides the service?

The service is provided by a number of providers including: Specsavers (shops in Woolwich and Greenwich); Outside Clinic (home service only), Audiological Science (has a has a base in Greenwich), and InHealth.

Who is it for?

You need to be registered with a GP service in south east London and over 18 to self-refer to this service.

The service is for those with routine hearing loss. The following conditions must be discussed with your GP first:

  • Persistent pain in either ear (earache lasting more than seven days in the past 90 days)
  • Discharge (other than wax) or bleeding from your ear in the past 90 days
  • Hearing loss affecting only one ear
  • Noises (tinnitus) affecting only one ear
  • Sudden (within the last week) loss or deterioration of hearing
  • Rapid (within the last 90 days) loss or deterioration of hearing
  • Episodes of dizziness where you feel you are spinning, and you feel sick
  •  Hearing loss that has come on very quickly (less than three months onset)
  •  Foreign bodies in your ear
  • Fluctuating hearing loss, other than associated with colds, etc – as per the contra-indications

Weight management services (Tier 2)

What does the service offer?

The service (known as tier 2) provides lifestyle weight management services, including: diet, nutrition, lifestyle, exercise and behaviour change advice.

The session will last for 12 weeks and consist of weekly two hour sessions.

There is a wide range of support available to anybody living in Greenwich. You can find information on Live Well Greenwich website, or you can contact ‘Give it a Go’ or local ‘cookery clubs’ to get specific support on eating and managing your weight. This support is known as Tier 1. To access tier 2 support you will be expected to have already followed advice and activities from teir1.

You need to be registered with a GP service in South East London and over 18 self refer to this service

You need to be registered with a GP service in SE London and over 18 to self-refer to this service. You also need to meet one of the following criteria:

  • Have a BMI ≥ 30 with recent onset Type 2 diabetes
  • Have a BMI ≥ 35 with 2 recognised co-morbidities
  • Have a BMI ≥ 40 with no related co-morbidities
  • Have a BMI of 27.5kg/m2 (if you are from an Asian, Black African or Caribbean background)
  • Have experienced a weight problem for at least five years
  • Have complied with Tier 1 and 2 services for at least 6 months and have failed to achieve or maintain adequate weight-loss goals
  • Have undergone bariatric surgery and require specific post-operative support after 2 years

Community podiatry

What does the service offer?

The Community Podiatry service specialises in assessing and treating problems of the foot and ankle and is aimed at patients who have high-risk podiatric needs including:

  • Diabetic foot ulceration
  • Non-diabetic foot ulceration
  • Previous foot ulceration
  • A history of Charcot foot
  • Patients on dialysis
  • Previous amputation
  • Neuropathy in combination with lower limb peripheral arterial disease
  • Neuropathy in combination with callus/deformity
  • Lower limb peripheral arterial disease with or without callus/deformity
  • Nail surgery

Who provides the service?

Greenwich Podiatry Service, Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust.

The service also offer home visits for bed-bound patients.

Who is it for?

You need to be registered with a Greenwich GP service, aged 18 or above and have one of the conditions listed above to receive this service.

How do I self refer?

You will initially need to complete the referral form for podiatry assessment and email it to the team at oxl-tr.Podiatry@nhs.net.

You will have an initial assessment. As the service is for high-risk cases – if your case is assessed as ‘low risk’ of developing foot complications, you would be discharged with self-care advice.

Falls services

What does the service offer?

The service offers help and advice to prevent future falls and regain your confidence and independence.

The service focuses on assessment, rehabilitation, and exercise as this is regarded as this is the best way to help reduce falls and fractures.

Who provides the service?

Greenwich Falls Prevention Service, Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust.

The team hold clinics and exercise classes at Eltham Community Hospital on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The team also conducts home visits.

Who is it for?

The Greenwich Falls Prevention Service is for adults who have fallen or who are at risk of falling.

Live Well – supporting good health and well being

What does the service offer?

Live well is a free advice and support service available to everybody in Greenwich.

It offers local information on events, activities and support to look after your health and wellbeing. This includes support on issues such as eating well, quitting smoking, relationships and mental wellbeing. It also offers advice to help families live happy and healthy lives, from birth to teenage years and beyond.

What does the service offer?

Greenwich’s ‘Time to Talk NHS Talking Therapies provides a range of talking therapies for people in the borough who feel anxious and worried or down and depressed. It is aimed at people with mild problems of anxiety or depression who are motivated to work to change the problem.

Greenwich Time to Talk offers support for anyone over the age of 16 living in the Borough of Greenwich and suffering from depression, anxiety or other common mental health problems, or a long term condition.

Maternity services

What does the service offer?

Support for pregnant women and their babies. The service is open to all women as soon as they know they are pregnant. Ideally you should be seen by a midwife by the time you are 10 weeks pregnant, or as early in your pregnancy as possible.
