Half term NHS vaccination clinics to launch on World Polio Day

NHS South East London will mark World Polio Day 2022 on 24th October by launching a series of pop-up polio vaccination clinics across south east London.

The clinics, running throughout the October half term in Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark are open to any child aged *1-9 years old living in south east London.

Senior health experts and specialist children’s doctors from south east London have called for all parents in the region to book their children in for a polio vaccination or booster jab after the discovery earlier this year of polio in London sewers. For some children this may be an extra dose on top of their routine vaccinations. In other children it may bring them up to date with their routine vaccinations.

Dr Toby Garrood, Joint Medical Director at South East London Integrated Care System and a consultant at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust said:

“We understand that polio is a concern for parents in London right now, and we also know that parents and carers want to ensure they are making the best, most informed decisions about their children’s health and wellbeing.

“Our south east London World Polio Day pop up vaccination clinics are open to all children aged 1 – 9 years old* and I urge all parents and carers in the area to book their child’s polio vaccination today”.

*Bexley pop-up clinics are for children aged 5 – 9 years old.
