We are proud to announce that three south east London initiatives have been shortlisted in four different categories for the 2025 HSJ Awards.

NHS Communications Initiative of the Year category

NHS South East London’s guide to healthcare campaign

  • A research-driven campaign designed to help people find their way to the right care for them (GP, UTC, pharmacy, 111 online), presenting the information from the service user’s perspective. A simple, illustrated, printed guide, co-designed with local people, is at the heart of the campaign. It aims to answer the basic question, ‘this is my problem, where do I go for help?’. The guide was piloted in Lewisham, delivered to homes and widely distributed in community settings. Evaluation showed very high levels of awareness, understanding and retention of the guide, and positive operational outcomes. Helping people find their way to the right care is good for them, and good for the NHS. Our plan is to refine the guide further, and then run the campaign across south east London.

Innovation and Improvement in Reducing Healthcare Inequalities category

South London Office of Specialised Services’ enhanced community sickle cell services

  • A new community-based service designed to provide greater support for people of all ages with sickle cell disorder in south east London. This includes more peer support, access to a multi-disciplinary team of specialists in one appointment and help with everyday matters like welfare support.

Integrated Care Initiative of the Year and Primary and Community Care Innovation of the Year categories

South London Office of Specialised Services’ Multi morbidity model of care

  • A new primary and community based approach to proactively manage multiple long term conditions, starting with cardiorenal metabolic (heart, kidney and metabolic) health. Integrated neighbourhood teams bring together GPs, community services, and specialists to detect conditions earlier, optimise treatment, and reduce hospital visits. Early results show better detection and prescribing, fewer admissions, and high patient and staff satisfaction.

Congratulations to all who have been shortlisted and made such positive contributions to healthcare in south east London. The winners of the 2025 HSJ Awards will be announced at the awards ceremony on 20 November 2025.
