On Friday 25 April 2025 One Bromley Champions and representatives from One Bromley partners joined a celebration to mark the third anniversary of the Community Health Champions Programme in Bromley. After an overview of the programme context, launch and operating model, the champions shared their experiences on training, coproducing health and wellbeing activities, examples of reaching the community, and personal stories on the benefits champions can get by joining the programme, from confidence building, learning, social interaction to a rewarding feeling from helping others and connections with other residents and groups.
Dr Angela Bhan, Bromley Place Based Director, said ‘The One Bromley Community Health Champions is a volunteering programme to promote health and wellbeing. Bromley is the biggest borough in London and the Champions are so essential in working with us to help reach communities and reduce health inequalities’.
During the first three years of programme One Bromley Champions have supported a variety of health campaigns and initiatives, including vaccinations for adults and children, Cervical Screening campaign, Know Your Numbers (blood pressure awareness week), Long Covid information, Primary Care Networks (PCN) Wellbeing Cafes, and joined outreach activities across the borough, like coproduced Selfcare sessions funded by the Innovation Funds or Health Information Week in collaboration with Bromley libraries and PCNs.
The celebration was a vibrant event full of positive energy and recognition, and goodwill to keep working together to support health and care local services and residents to improve uptake, reduce loneliness, and make Bromley residents aware of the local support available for them.
Chris Evans, Community Links Bromley CEO, shared ‘this was a perfect opportunity to celebrate together three years of Community Health Champions and the 60th Anniversary of Community Links Bromley. It’s great to keep working together and share ideas to support community groups and residents in Bromley’.
Stephanie and Nicky, two of the champions who attended the event, said: ‘Thanks for making us feel so valued. It was a wonderful occasion’ and ‘The event was lovely. It was good to see everyone and put some faces to names’.
The One Bromley Community Health Champions Programme received a One Bromley Recognition Awards in May 2024.
